The Paradiso Files On the Trail of Boston Unknown Serial Killer (Audible Audio Edition) Timothy M Burke Wyntner Woody steerforth press llc Books

In this bold and suspenseful true-crime story, former homicide prosecutor Timothy M. Burke makes his case against one Leonard Paradiso. Lenny 'The Quahog' was convicted of assaulting one young woman and paroled after three years, but Burke believes that he was guilty of much more - that Paradiso was a serial killer who operated in the Boston area, and maybe farther afield, for nearly 15 years, assaulting countless young women and responsible for the deaths of as many as seven. Burke takes the reader inside the minds of prosecutors, police investigators, and one very dangerous man who thought he had figured out how to rape and murder and get away with it.
The Paradiso Files generated headlines when first published in February 2008. Nine days later, Paradiso died at the age of 65 without commenting on any of Burke's accusations, including that he murdered Joan Webster, a Harvard graduate student who disappeared from Logan Airport in 1981. Boston-area prosecutors announced in September 2008 that Burke's revelations had led them to reopen the unsolved murder cases of three young women - Melodie Stankiewicz, Holly Davidson, and Kathy Williams. There were "too many similarities between the individual cases to ignore," a prosecutor involved in the new investigation said. Burke's account leaves little doubt that Paradiso's deeds should go down in infamy, alongside those of the Boston Strangler.

I lived in Boston for many years and usually enjoy true crime books, so I thought this would appeal to me. I'd urge anyone considering purchasing this book to get the kindle sample and read a bit of it. It reads like it was written by a former prosecutor (which it was). Maybe the horrible writing won't bother you, but for me it was a deal breaker. It's filled with attempts to reproduce dialect and imaginings of what people were thinking, as if this was a novel. Here's a totally random sample: "The girl knew he would hurt her. She sensed she had done something wrong as Sugah placed his right hand on her breast, leaned forward, and closed his long, thin fingers around her. “Don’t chu be seizin’ up no trouble for me, girl. You hear me plain?” he said as the woman-child’s face grimaced in pain. “Ain’t no good gonna come wid you talkin’ to them policemens.'” If that didn't make you cringe, then maybe you'll like this book.Product details

The Paradiso Files On the Trail of Boston Unknown Serial Killer (Audible Audio Edition) Timothy M Burke Wyntner Woody steerforth press llc Books Reviews
I loved it. Coming from the area I knew where everything was. It was like you were there in the courtroom watching the trial. I loved how this was written and hope the author writes more books. EXCELLENT!!!!!!!!!!!
This was a very good story that keep you interested throughout. Thank god there are hard working district attorney's and dedicated law enforcement people out there doing the tough job, to take care of people like Paradiso.
Great read for anyone interest in true crime and law. Perfect combo of true crime documentary, detective procedural, and page turning thriller
If you like true crime stories, this one will have your adrenaline pumping. Tim Burke did a masterful job of telling the story of an incredibly slippery and evil serial killer in the Boston area. I had never heard of Lenny Paradiso, aka the Quahog. He was a cold-hearted, woman-hating killer who beguiled his victims before raping and killing them. The hardest part of all was how Lenny's girlfriend provided him with an alibi time and again, protecting him so he could continue to kill. I look forward to the follow up book, Mr. Burke, where she is prosecuted and convicted as an accessory to Paradiso's crimes.
It took me a while to really get interested as it seemed there were just too many of the same crimes being committed without a good police force trying to find the killer. However the trial part was totally suspenseful. The main reason for 4 stars. There were some things left unanswered such as if there was an arrest for perjury and who the person in white was in the balcony?
Tim Burke had a front row seat to the pursuit and prosecution of Serial killer Lenny Paradisio. In this book, he shares the story of a dogged investigator and himself, a determined DA, pursue the suspect for years in an attempt to see justice done where others considered the matter a cold case. Once you begin reading this story you'll find it difficult to stop reading until its conclusion.
The story is great, although I think it's important to approach it for what it is a collection of yet unsolved crimes approached from the viewpoint of one man.
I love reading true crime, mysteries, and investigative journalism. But the only thing that kept me reading this book was the story line. The writing feels sophomoric and indulgent, not unlike many young adult novels. Descriptors were often used in place of names for people which was confusing and frustrating (for example, the defense counsel toward the final chapters was almost exclusively referred to as "Schmoozer"; to the point that when the author decided to use his actual name again in a paragraph, it took me a moment to realize who he was referencing). There were many other points in time when the author used descriptors in places of names and I had no idea at all whom he was referencing. As a result, I kind of stopped paying attention to who the characters were mid-way through (focusing only on the main characters).
All in all, the book kept me very interested and I found myself looking up details of the case online. I enjoyed reading it and would recommend it as a lazy vacation page turner, but had a hard time taking it seriously in many places.
